Is it alright to use speaker wire to wire headlights on my tractor?
i have a Cub cadet 129 garden tractor and i just wired up headlights and taillights on it and i used speaker wire. it seems like its working great for now but just wondering if it would be fine to keep speaker wire on them for the rest of the time i have the tractor or change it out for regular wire. is their much of a difference between regular wire vs speaker wire?
the headlights have 14 gauge and the taillights have i think 18 gaugeYou should be using a heavier gauge wire , 14 gauge minimum. Lights have a heavy amperage draw. It's like trying to run a lawn sprinkler with 1/4 inch tubing instead of a normal water hose. Eventually the speaker wire (usually 22 gauge) will overheat and cause a fire.
